A GIANT hello to our very first squad of Templemore TITANS. These guys are members of the newest competitive swim Club in Ulster. Unique, because it will be community based with an emphasis on TEAM. Due to the Bank Holiday on MOnday 19th September 2022 for our Queen's Funeral, Shankill will be closed and there will be no lessons that evening.

A busy few weeks for the Club with members taking part in the WAAR adventure race in Donegal, the Athy, Ballymoney & Carrick triathlons and also the 100km Coast cycle challenge 

A reminder that there are no lessons Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd June as the pool will be closed for the Jubilee

Very well done to our Recreational Swim Squads who completed their Distance Awards in the last week and used the event to raise money for the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal. Over 20 swimmers took part with the majority covering between 1500 to 2000 metres (60 to 80 lengths of the Shankill pool) within the hour. With thanks to the various sponsors, donations from other Members and the Templemore Trust who contributed an amount for each of the 1600 lengths swam, the Squads have raised a fantastic £1,000. Superb

With regret due to lack of numbers Templemore Triathlon Club has decided to cancel the cycle sportive planned for 8th September 2019. Thanks to those that registered - refunds will be arranged as soon as possible. It is hoped something similar to raise funds for such a worthy cause (Community Rescue Service) will be organised for next year

Very busy day for triathlon today... A choice between Antrim, Down or Tyrone! Templemore had a number of folks out and about and many congrats to them all

A squad of 6 relay teams took part in the Portballintri event today. Blessed with fantastic weather we had two guys out of the water pretty soon after the leaders followed by the first and I think second ladies out of the water. Fast bike times over a hilly course handed on to our runners who climbed the Runkerry cliffs and back - one of whom ran the fastest of everyone taking part! It ended with one of our teams on the podium. Well done to everyone for taking part. Not only an enjoyable event but with your entry fees and the Club matching them we raised nearly £1,000 for charity today. What a day to be beside the seaside. Superb!

Massive well done to the parents for encouraging their children along to the Junior Triathlon in Carrick this evening with everyone enjoying themselves. Particular well done to Mabbelle who finished 4th in the girls race

We received quite a bit of feedback last year regarding the lesson program continuing during the summer holiday period.  We have listened to your comments and have decided this year we will offer a variety of swimming lessons for white through to red hats for the weeks commencing 29th July through to 19th August.  Courses are available to anyone currently attending lessons, on our waiting list or non-members aged 4 and above, so feel free to share. 

We will offer the following options:

Option 1

1 lesson per week for 4 weeks – Cost £24

10.30-11.30am Monday, Wednesday & Thursday White & Orange/ Beginners (30 min classes)

11.00-12.00 Tuesday & Friday White & Orange/ Beginners (30 min classes)

Option 2

1 lesson per week Mon-Thurs for 4 weeks – Cost £24

1.30-2.30pm White & Orange/ Beginners (30 min classes)

Option 3

5 classes of intensive lessons for 1 week

4.00-6.00pm White & Orange/ Beginners, Yellow & Green/Improvers (30 min classes) – Cost £30

6.00-7.00pm -   Blue & Red (1 hour session) – Cost £30

The kids took part in their respective age group triathlon categories while Iron Woman Muriel completed a half iron man (1.9km swim, 96km cycle followed by a 21km run). Many congratulations

As promised more details regarding the forthcoming super sprint triathlon. It is an adult and child team event (child aged 15 and under) - you start each discipline together in order to encourage one another along the way. This is not a timed event - it is a challenge. When doing so please advise how many pool lengths you both wish to swim - 4, 6 or 10 - this will determine your start time (you will be advised your start time closer to the event). Advance Notice - our popular community triathlon will take place on Sunday morning 19th May. It has a twist this year...as it will be a parent/adult & child event...up to 10 lengths of the Templemore pool, followed by a run/jog/walk to Victoria Park...then on yer bike for a couple of laps. Another busy weekend for the Club. The dreadful weather unfortunately cut Peter's event on Saturday short as the organisers felt it necessary to cancel part way through. On Sunday 6 took part in the Lisburn Triathlon with one of our juniors taking part in the Lisburn Aquathlon. Well done to everybody.

Templemore Swimming Club can provide opportunities for all levels of competitive swimmers from junior competitive to national performance, along with a wide range of social activities.  We have a team of dedicated coaches who ensure that each and every individual reaches their full potential, both in and out of the pool.

We are running a trial/assessment session on Sunday 26th August 2-4pm and Friday 31st August 5-6pm in Templemore Swim Centre. The trial is open to anyone who is currently swimming competitively or has previous competitive experience.  It is also open to anyone who has completed ASA level 7 or equivalent and current Red Hats within Templemore Swim School.

A very busy weekend for the Triathlon Club. First of all Arthur finished off his 3 day cycle from Donegal to Belfast!, then the Club entered 3 relay teams in the charity Portballintrae Sprint Triathlon (followed by a BBQ!). On Sunday David competed fantastically well for a top 10 finish in his category at Ballyholme with a further 5 guys competing in the Ulster Open Water Championships at Carryduff. Time for a rest!

Well done to all of the 48 triathletes who took part in the inaugural Templemore Junior Super Sprint event today. Many thanks to everyone who helped make it possible and enjoyable.

Great Duck Race and Family Fun Day - Saturday 16th June 2018

Many thanks to everyone who has registered to take part in the Swim School gala on Saturday 9^th June.  We have received more entries than expected which is fantastic, but this means we need to amend the schedule to accommodate all swimmers and ensure the day runs smoothly.  The day will now be split into 4 sessions with medals being presented at the end of each session.  New timings are as follows:

Yellow Hats – 2pm

Green Hats – 3.15pm

Blue Hats – 4.30pm

Red Hats 5.45pm

The annual Swim School gala will take place on Saturday 9th June in Templemore.  This is a great opportunity for all swimmers in yellow hats and above to showcase their swimming skills in a fun environment supported by family and friends. The Yellow and Green hat swimmers will take part in a number of races including freestyle, backstroke and kick while our Blue and Red hat swimmers will take part in all 4 strokes with an additional Individual Medley for Red hats.  I would encourage all eligible swimmers to take part as there is always a fantastic atmosphere watching swimmers fight hard for places in finals and trying to win medals. 

We have split the gala into two sessions due to numbers:
Session 1 – 2.00pm Yellow and Green hats
Session 2 – 4.30pm Blue & Red hats

The club is holding a table quiz in Belmont Bowling Club on Friday 20th April at 7.30pm. Everyone from the club and swim school is welcome as are swimmers from year 7 up. 

These nights are always great craic so please come along and support your club and meet some of the other parents. 

£5 per person entry at the door. 

We will also have a raffle on the night so if anyone has a small prize they would like to donate please bring this along on the night.

We are looking forward to welcoming more than 500 swimmers to this Sunday's annual Templemore Minor Gala at Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn.

Session 3 - 3pm start (no warm-up)

Templemore Triathlon Club announce their inaugural indoor winter series league. This will consist of one event per month from November through to April...six events in total...4 aquathlons and 2 triathlons. They are distance based (set times per discipline...approx 15-20 mins each) with the winners over the 6 event series being those that cover the most distance. All events will likely run on Sunday mornings from 0830 with the first event planned for 5th November. Cost for the series is £20. Places are limited to 30 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis by emailing alisonenoble@gmail.com. Cheques payable to 'Templemore ASC'.

The next PTL is away to Banbridge on Saturday 7th October.
Meet at Templemore at 3.30pm. Bus leaves at 3.45pm sharp for 5pm warm up in Banbridge.

One of our teachers, Jonny Proctor, is in training for the Belfast Half Marathon which takes place on Sunday 17th September. This is his first major goal before hopefully tackling the full marathon next May. With cancer having hit the Templemore Family this year, Jonny is raising money for Cancer Research UK. #StuttgartTrip17 - Gala Day 1

It was an early start for all. We were up at 7 and after a good breakfast we arrived at the pool at 8.30. The warm up was really busy. Everyone had great swims all day with medals for Sophie W, Conor, Jenni, Gemma, Victoria and Rosie. As well as the individual medals Sophie W, Gemma, Jenni and Victoria took gold in the open medley relay. Lots of PBs for everyone in very windy back crawl conditions!

Late back to the apartment for a great curry (thanks Peter!) and early to bed. Looking forward to more of the same tomorrow.

Congratulations to everyone who took park in our annual Distance Day today. A total of 76 swimmers took part, completing distances from 25 yards to 1000 yards, with a record number of 40 swimmers completing 1000 yards which is a fantastic achievement. 

Please note there will be no Swim School lessons 5-7pm on Monday 1st May as the centre is closed.

Don't forget it's distance day tomorrow from 11.30am -1.00pm. Come along and see how far you can swim. Last swimmer to enter the pool no later than 1pm.

Please find attached the new rotas which are in place from April - June 2017.  As always to ensure the sessions may run, please arrange alternative cover should you be unable to cover your session.

Parent duties are important in order to comply with Swim Ireland Supervision Policy.  Supervisors must familiarise themselves with the attached policy and in particular:

- remain onsite for the duration of the session.

- ensure the door at Templemore remains locked at all times for out of hours sessions (early morning/Sundays).  Parents will ring the doorbell for access so supervisors should sit close to the pool entrance to hear the doorbell. 

Please find attached a revised format for the 2017 Irish Age Group Championships & Summer Open. Following recent feedback, there was some concern around the meet being fit for purpose in terms of athlete experience. This restructure removes that issue and should prove to be an attractive meet for all qualifying Irish athletes. Other than for those athletes competing for Ireland at this time, there is an expectancy from the NPD that athletes will support and attend this meet as a culmination of their season's swimming

Please also find attached the selection policies for the Irish teams to the 2017 LEN European SC Championships and to the 2017 Slovenian Open Championships. These both pay particular reference to the importance of the IAGSO 2017, hence the combined distribution of such.

On behalf of the organising team I would like to express heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the second Templemore Open meet a huge success.  I honestly didn’t think it would be possible to improve on what we did last year but I have been totally overwhelmed by the number of entries received (2000+), the number of clubs who supported the event and how smoothly everything ran on the day.
 
Having to provide all of the volunteers for the two sessions is never an easy task, but everyone carried out their role to an extremely high standard. The roles over the course of the day varied from announcer to runner and everything in between, but each one was equally valued as the gala could not run without it.  I think it is fair to say there aren’t many gala’s where there are extra volunteers all willing to go the extra mile to ensure success, but that is a true reflection of what Templemore stands for.
 
It was great so see not only the experienced swimmers taking part, but also so many of the new members of our competitive squads.  A special mention must go the six members of Red Hats who also came along to experience competitive swimming for the first time.  It certainly helped that we had parents/family members and some of our senior swimmers on hand poolside to offer guidance and support which made the whole experience a positive one.  A number of Swim Ulster officials, coaches and parents from other clubs commented on how friendly the atmosphere was poolside and that is all thanks to each and every one of you.
 
Our vision for this gala has always been to provide an event targeting our younger swimmers who don’t normally get the opportunity to swim at a competitive level.  We also saw an opportunity to have the younger swimmers swim alongside and learn from the more experienced swimmers and I think as a club we have once again exceeded this goal.  
 
Finally I would like to express a special thank you to the Templemore coaching team, without whom our swimmers would not be prepared to compete.  The coaches not only encouraged the kids (102 Templemore swimmers) to compete, they ensured they were ready to compete and supported them throughout the day, providing guidance, encouragement and positive feedback.  The time they dedicate to their respective squads is much appreciated and their hard work is reflected in the success of our swimmers.
 
I am extremely proud of what we have achieved as a Club, once again showcasing not only what Templemore can do in terms of gala organisation but also the talent we have, working as a team and producing talented swimmers.

Gold squad session on Saturday morning has been moved to 4-6pm in Bangor Aurora.

Due to Templemore Minor gala Sunday's session has been cancelled.

In the interests of the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people Templemore Swim school has introduced a total ban on the use of all unauthorised hand held electronic devices including  mobile phones, tablets and laptops in the pool area during all Swim School, Recreation, Masters, Seniors and Water Polo sessions.

This will  be rigidly enforced by staff and anyone observed using such a device will be given the choice of either putting the device away or removing themselves from the poolside.

This policy is for the benefit of all our swimmers and we appreciate your understanding and support

Over the past year we have noticed an increased number of gala entries across all squads which is fantastic.  However, as a result of this coaches are spending an increasing amount of time organising swimmers for races, escorting them poolside, ensuring they are staying hydrated and fed etc.  Whilst this is an essential part of the gala it often means the coaches do not get the see their swimmers competing and therefore are not in a position to give feedback on performance. 

Feedback from the coach after races is an important part of the swimmers development and recently we have been unable to deliver this to everyone, either because we have not seen the race or are escorting children poolside.

We have now included the team manager role as a Gala job.  The main duties are as follows:

1 Check kids entered have arrived and are poolside in time for warm up

2 Ensure kids and parents are seated together

3 Organise kids for events and send/escort them poolside in time for their races

4 Ensure kids eat and drink

5 Reporting to Head Coach

Following the success of the Templemore Minor Gala last year I am delighted to confirm that we will be running another gala on 19 February 2017 at Lisburn Leisureplex, once again this is aimed at our younger swimmers aged 13 and under. 

We know from last year that this is huge undertaking and once again we are looking towards all of our members to ensure this is another successful event not only for the Templemore swimmers but is recognised as a highlight in the Swim Ulster calendar.

So how can you help?  There are a number of ways you can support the event: 

1 Sponsorship – There are significant costs involved in organising this event including pool hire, medals/trophies, programmes, refreshments etc., and we would welcome any forms of sponsorship towards these costs.  If you would like to make a donation or have any contacts you could approach, please let us know as soon as possible.  Any donations will be acknowledged in the event programme, unless you specify otherwise.  Anyone wishing to make a contribution should contact Laurence Cusick laurencecusick@hotmail.com

2 Officiating – if your child is swimming in the gala, you will be expected to help with officiating for part of the session, this could be as a timekeeper, marshal, turn judge, finish judge, recorder, programme seller etc.  We would aim to split these duties to ensure you are only doing approx. 2 hours.  We would also expect our older swimmers who are not eligible to compete to come along to at least one of the sessions to assist with officiating and organising of swimmers.  We also have a large number of parents who are experienced in the various officiating roles and would welcome their assistance in supporting the less experienced parents of the younger swimmers.  As with other galas a rota will be issued in advance and you will be expected to carry out the duties allocated.

3 Participation – we expect all eligible swimmers to take part in this event, as it will provide a unique opportunity for our less experienced swimmers to watch, learn and interact with the more experienced swimmers in the club.

The success of this event not only consolidates our position as a highly successful club in Ulster, it will generate an income stream which we hope we hope will allow us to maintain our current fee structure in the future. 

Coaches will be in contact with their squads to outline their expectations and we hope that everyone will give this event their full support.  As with other galas you will receive an invite via Active and would be grateful if you can respond as soon as possible to allow us to plan effectively.

The first development gala is taking place on Saturday 1^st October in Ballymena and it’s great to see so many entries from Templemore.

For some of you, especially Bronze squad this will be your first experience of an open gala and it will be a little bit daunting for both you and your child, but we aim to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.  Listed below are a few tips which might make things a bit easier.

Gala Tips for Kids

• You should arrive poolside 10 mins before the warm up time, ensuring you have hat and goggles (a spare pair of goggles is good to have).
• Complete the full warm up as advised by your coach.
• Bring a spare towel to dry off after races.
• Flip flops or similar to be worn poolside.
• It is important to keep warm between races, club t-shirt/hoody & shorts/tracksuit should be worn
• Bring lots of water/energy drinks, it is important to keep hydrated throughout the day.
• Bring food/snacks, it is important to keep your body fuelled, you should consider the following foods: bananas, dried fruit, cereal bars, pasta/rice with chicken tuna etc, sandwiches, wraps, pitta bread etc
• If you unsure of anything – ask one of the coaches
• Have fun!!!!!!!

Gala Tips for Parents

• Ensure your child arrives on time, with sufficient food and water for the duration of the gala.
• Encourage your child to have fun.
• Give positive feedback.
• Shouting & cheering is compulsory!!
• Trust the coaches

With the high number of entries from the club we have been allocated a number of jobs, and we have tried to split these as evenly as possible.  If you have never carried out a job at a gala, don’t worry we will keep you right on the day. 

The coaching team will be on hand throughout the day to ensure all the kids have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. We would like everyone to be seated together as a team as this not only provides support for our swimmers it makes it easier for the coaches when organising events.  

Please note there will be no session in either Avoniel or Templemore on Saturday morning.

On behalf of the Swim Ireland Board I am writing to first of all issue formal notification of an EGM which will be held in conjunction with the Swim Ireland Annual Congress on Saturday, 8^th October 2016. Please save the date! Attached is a  formal letter of notification and notice of Motions together with an explanatory note detailing the proposed changes.

Teamwear Ireland will be in Avoniel next Thursday 15th September from 6-7.30pm with samples of the new team kit.  If you want to get an idea of sizes etc or place an order please call in to see them.

Parking at Methody College Belfast

Due to the commencement of building work at McArthur Hall w.e.f. Friday 16 September for approx. 12 months no vehicles are allowed to park in the vicinity of the Chapel down to McArthur Hall, rear of McArthur Hall & on the roadway leading down to McArthur to allow large lorries to have access to site.  All visitors must park in the Main Quad area in school until further notice.

Masters/Triathlon/Seniors:

TASC silver hats can be purchased through the active website.  Hats are purchased as an add-on product and issued by Ross once payment is made.

All swimmers should wear silver hats when competing for or representing the club.

It is essential for the smooth running of the club and to comply with our insurance requirements that all payments and paperwork are submitted in advance.

Templemore ASC are actively recruiting for an experienced and enthusiastic technical coach starting this September 2016. 

They will work under the guidance of our Head Coach and will be the lead coach with our Silver Squad. The Coach will be required to attend all sessions, relevant galas and will be responsible for informing and helping parents and their children navigate their way through competitive swimming.

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, eager to learn, passionate for the sport and be approachable and friendly.

The successful candidate will have either a Swim Ireland Level 2 coaching qualification (preferred) or a Level 2 Teaching qualification with the view to completing their Level 2 Coaching Certification as early as possible.

Terms and conditions are dependent on qualifications and experience.

It is with great sadness that we have to report that Mr John Kirkwood, the first Club Coach back in 1983, passed away yesterday evening. His funeral service will be held tomorrow morning (Thursday 30th June 2016) in the Templemore Hall (facing the pool) at 10.30 a.m. RIP

Pre-Season Training for our Senior Squad Swimmers will this year run over the final 2 weeks in August giving a great opportunity for some intensive development in advance of next season. Please book early – Numbers are limited!

Our annual activity night and bbq took place last night at Crawfordsburn Scout Centre and was once again a huge success. A record number of almost 300 people attended, with kids taking part in various activities including grass sledging, crate climbing, archery and of course the tradtional falling in the muddy water at the obstacle course!!
A huge thank you to the team of people who helped cook, serve and marshall, not an easy task when you are faced with 300 hungry people!!!!!

Very well done to all who took part in our end of season gala today and to those who organised/helped out. Another great event.

Delighted that all our volunteer teachers, committee members and helpers received a Volunteer recognition award from Belfast City Council for their contribution to the life of the city and its people. Well done everyone.

Olympian Triathlon Club are this year's event organisers for the forthcoming Aquathlon to be held on Saturday 2 July (see attached leaflet) – set in the magnificent grounds of Castlewellan Forest Park, the race comprises a 1km swim followed by a 5km run. I thought this might be of interest to your members and maybe a break from their normal routine and a chance to try something a little different! In addition to the Adult and Junior races there will be a fun event for the younger ones so a chance for the whole family to get involved.

All sessions at Avoniel this evening (Mon 30th) are cancelled as the centre is closed.

Just a reminder that land training is now finished for the season.

Aquasprint final - Friday 3rd June - Dungannon Leisure Centre - 6pm warm up - coach leaves Templemore 4.15pm

Saturday saw our last heat of Aquasprint with the visit of Breifne to the Aurora. The medley relays saw some very close finishes however Templemore edged these by 3-1. The individual events saw some great swims which allowed Templemore to win all four strokes which was pleasing. Freestyle relays were equally tight but again Templemore won 3-1, in fact we were only pipped on the touch which prevented a clean sweep. Final score was Templemore 228 Breifne 172. Thanks again to all swimmers , parents, coaches and Breifne for another good night.

Next up is the final on Friday 3rd June ( venue TBC) . We will incorporate as many swimmers as possible but given that we only have 2 lanes we will have to reduce our numbers, however everyone who has swum any of our heats will be very welcome to travel and be part of the team on poolside.

Saturday night saw our second home Aquasprint of the season with the visit of Dungannon. After winning the medley relays by 3 to 1 there was little between the teams on backcrawl and breaststroke however some excellent team swims in the butterfly and frontcrawl saw Templemore open an unassailable lead. We finished strongly again winning 3 of the freestyle relays giving a final score of Templemore 224 to Dungannon 176. Thanks again to all the coaches, parents, swimmers and helpers for all the work that goes on in running these galas.

Our last gala is at home to Breifne (16th April) which we hope to finish on a high before the final (Friday 3rd June).

Can all swimmers or parents ensure that if they have confirmed attendance that they let Robin or Ross know as early as possible if unable to attend. We appreciate that last minute illness or other circumstances can prevent attendance but swimmers failing to turn up causes a lot of last minute panic trying to rearrange individual and relay swims and is unfair on coaches and teammates who may miss out on races.

From next season onwards it will be fully implemented, however, for the remainder of this season, we will be using it for gala entries.  This means if your son or daughter wishes to swim galas, you must register them on the online portal as entries and payments will go through there.

Templemore Minor Open Meet 2016 - Saturday 12 March -  Laganvalley Leisureplex, Lisburn

Templemore has applied for and been granted a licence to run its own minor gala on 12 March 2016 at Lisburn Leisureplex aimed at our younger swimmers aged 12 and under.

This is a huge undertaking for any club and we are looking towards all of our members to ensure it is not only a success this year but becomes a regular event in the Swim Ulster calendar.  As gala organisers we are not only responsible for venue costs, we also need to provide medals, programmes, officials, etc.   

So how can you help?  There are a number of ways you can support the event: 

1. Sponsorship – There are significant costs involved in organising this event including pool hire, medals etc., and we would welcome any forms of sponsorship towards these costs.  If you would like to make a donation or have any contacts you could approach, please let us know as soon as possible.  Any donations will be acknowledged in the event programme, unless you specify otherwise.  Anyone wishing to make a contribution should contact Laurence Cusick at laurencecusick@hotmail.com or speak to him or myself at poolside.

2. Officiating – if your child is swimming in the gala, you will be expected to help with officiating for part of the session, this could be as a timekeeper, marshal, turn judge, finish judge, recorder, programme seller etc.  We would aim to split these duties to ensure you are only doing approx. 2 hours.  We would also expect our older swimmers who are not eligible to compete to come along to at least one of the sessions to assist with officiating and organising of swimmers.  We also have a large number of parents who are experienced in the various officiating roles and would welcome their assistance in supporting the less experienced parents of the younger swimmers.  As with other galas a rota will be issued in advance and you will be expected to carry out the duties allocated.

3. Participation – we expect all eligible swimmers to take part in this event, as it will provide a unique opportunity for our less experienced swimmers to watch, learn and interact with the more experienced swimmers in the club. All entries to be submitted to our gala secretary by Monday 29th February at the latest.

The success of this event will not only raise our profile as a highly successful club in Ulster, it will generate a new income stream which we hope we hope will allow us to maintain our current fee structure in the future.

Coaches will be in contact with their squads in the next couple of weeks to outline their expectations and we hope that everyone will give this event their full support.  I have attached entry slips and meet conditions for this meet.

Bangor Long course session is cancelled on Sunday 6th March due to Dave McCullagh gala.

We are planning to hold an end of season residential activity weekend for the swimming club 24-26 June 2016 at the Ganaway Centre in Co Down.

Ganaway is located on a 13 acre site between Millisle and Ballywalter and provides a wide range of fully supervised activities.  The purpose-built facility provides both accommodation and catering in an area of outstanding natural beauty overlooking the Irish Sea.  

We are currently planning our group’s itinerary with activities which will include archery, zip line, indoor climbing wall, caving and an assault course.

The weekend is open to all club members but spaces are limited.  If you are interested please plan to attend a short meeting at Avoniel on Thursday 3 March at 7pm.

As this is a home gala please can boys bring sandwiches and girls bring buns.

We need a number of parent volunteers aswell to help with timekeeping, finish judge, runner etc, if you can help please let us know or come down poolside on Saturday, thanks.

Thanks to all our parent helpers, all help is much appreciated as always.

Saturday saw our winning start to the Aquasprint season continue with an away victory to Cookstown. Despite this being our second bus trip within a few weeks we still had a very good turnout with some outstanding performances. The team set out their intentions early by winning the relays by 3-1 and then increased the lead during all four strokes before finishing with another 3-1 victory in the freestyle relays.

Our next gala is on Saturday, this time at home to Limavady before we have a break for a couple of months.

Gottosports, our club kit supplier, has asked for feedback on our swim kit preferences to help them meet our requirements and, as an incentive, for every returned form they will donate £1 towards the clubs commission so the more we send, the better for our club.

Saturday saw our first Aquasprint of the season with an away trip to Sliabh Beagh in Monaghan. Although medley relays were split it became obvious that all our swimmers were in great form in the individual events winning all four strokes whilst leaving the best to last by winning the FC relays by three to one. Final score was Templemore 236 Sliabh Beagh 164.

ALL Sessions at Templemore have been cancelled today (13th) due to a problem with the pool - apologies for any inconvenience.

The Christmas night out for Gold & NAG will be at  Boulder World on Tuesday 22nd December. We will be taking part on various different climbing walls under the supervision of fully qualified instructors and finish the evening with a trip to McDonalds. The climbing will take place from 6.30-8.00pm so we will meet at 6.15pm and the cost for both will be £8, the club is kindly sponsoring the difference.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Bangor Minor Open gala today.  For many of our swimmers it was their first experience of competitive swimming, and hopefully it proved to be an enjoyable day for all.  We had some great swims and a number of kids made it to finals, with a special mention going to Lucy Hill for taking silver in the backstroke. 

The coaches were very proud of each and every performance not only in the pool but in how everyone supported each other poolside.  I definitely think we won the award for loudest cheering!

We will be running an 50m Time Trial on Thursday 12 November from 6pm to 8.30pm in Avoniel.  This time trial is open to everyone from Bronze up.  If you would like to swim in PTL galas and have not yet any registered times, it is important to attend so you can be considered for the final team selection at the next meet.  Time from this Time trial and previous galas will be used for selection. 

In addition to a time trial we would like to run this as a gala format and to "train" parents up with jobs that we need to fill in order to run a successful gala.  Jobs that we normally need filled are:

• Finish Judges
• Starter/Race Referee
• Runner
• Team Managers 
• Lane Helpers

It would be great if we could some new blood down to help volunteer and also some of the more experienced volunteer parents maybe trying out a new job or two(starter etc).

This Sunday's long course training in Bangor has been cancelled because of the Schools Gala. Session moved to Templemore instead 12 - 2pm.

TASC committee advise the club's Annual General Meeting will be held on 14th October 2015 at Templemore Centre 7.30pm.  

We are submitting our annual order for personalised swim hats shortly.

The cost per hat is £12, details and order form attached. These are a great gift idea for birthdays or Christmas!

Cheques should be payable to ‘Templemore ASC’, and orders must be received on or before Friday 16th October.  Production & delivery estimate is 4 weeks.

With effect from Wednesday 30th September we will be opening the 6-7pm Silver Squad session to Bronze Squad members.  This is being offered as an additional session as opposed to a replacement for an existing session and will operate for an initial trial period of six weeks.

Attached are the Bronze, Silver and Gold Squads Supervision Rotas from 21 September - 31 December 2015 inc.

If you are unable to cover your duty please swap with another parent.  This is particularly important on Sundays and all out of hours sessions.  A review of current security arrangements by Templemore Users Trust means that the door must be locked during out of hours use.  

REMEMBER - for child protection reasons if there is no parent poolside then the session cannot take place!

Land training starts back next week (16 Sept) - Wednesday evenings 6-7pm @ Avoniel for Gold squad and above.

Please remember parent supervision is important for land training aswell - as land training only started last week we will monitor attendance over the coming weeks and a parent rota will be issued, however in the meantime please make sure a supervisor is present in line with SI guidelines.  (Alison will make a note of supervisors and this will be taken into consideration for the rota of course).

I have received a number of complaints from parents and swimmers following an incident in the female changing rooms in Avoniel on Thursday night.  A number of swimmers returned to the changing rooms at 8.30pm only to find items of clothing either missing or soaked with water.  This may have been carried out by a member of the public and I will discuss this with the Centre Management, however, we also need to consider that it was carried out by a club member.  Can I please ask all parents to discuss this with their children stressing that such behaviour will not be tolerated.  Anyone caught carrying out such acts will immediately be excluded from sessions.

Can I suggest that in future weeks children either make use of the lockers in the changing rooms or bring their bags poolside.

REMINDER - Swim School lessons restart on Saturday 5th September.  I hope everyone is looking forward to another successful year of swimming.

1.       Provide extra training in addition to club training

2.       Develop frequency of training with excellent skills and long course exposure

3.       Improve athleticism through dry land exercises

4.       Develop speed, aerobic capacity and technique in all four strokes including starts and turns

5.       Develop the ability to cope with life commitments – balancing swimming with family, friends, school etc

The Development Squad will be led by Sue Iveston (SI Level 3 Coach) and supported by myself, and is open to any swimmer born 2000-2005 achieving an Irish Age Group and Summer Meet Qualifying time and club coaches are very welcome to attend some or all of the sessions.  The programme will offer a session on Saturdays 4.00-6.30pm to include dry land and pool training at the Bangor Aurora Aquatics & Leisure Centre.

In order to attend you must had already achieved ASA Level 7, Swim Ireland Level 8, STA Level 7 or already be/have been in a competitive training environment.

If you wish you child to have a trial for the club, please make contact our head coach Ross Gillespie (rossswimming@hotmail.co.uk) to discuss and arrange a trial.  Places are extremely limited, so criteria will be applied very tightly.

For those who are not at the standard of our entry squad (Bronze) – we will refer them to our lesson programme to further develop their skills.

NAG squad morning sessions this Wednesday and Friday will run in Templemore from 6-7.30am instead of Avoniel for this week only.

It is essential for the smooth running of the club and to comply with our insurance requirements that all payments and paperwork are submitted in advance.

Attached is the National squad parent rota for the first month of the season - if you are unable to fulfil your allocated slot, please arrange/swap cover with another parent in the usual manner.

We will be running an assessment morning on Saturday 29th August 11.30-1.00 in Templemore.  If you feel your child has made significant progress since their assessment at the end of June, please feel free to come along.  This assessment is aimed at yellow hat level and above.

Parents/Guardians - A supervision rota will be issued shortly. This duty is an essential role, if uncovered the session cannot take place and therefore must be cancelled. Your swimmers and coaches need this support. Prior to the rota being published please would you check at drop off there is someone available to do this.

Good luck to all our swimmers competing in the Irish Age Groups and Summer Open Championships this week at the NAC, Dublin.

It is a great achievement to qualify for this event and we wish our swimmers all the best.

To assist our Treasurer when submitting your membership application form, please would you note your payment option eg 2 instalments or standing order and indicate when and how first payment will be made, by cheque or bank transfer. Those paying by standing order should include their initial payment with their application form.  (Details on Fees document). Our final day at IAG div 2 saw 5 swimmers compete who had survived the water fight and yet again pb's were achieved in nearly every race. The biggest pb of the day belonged to Grace Ross who cut an amazing 12 seconds off her 400FC time but the biggest gain was achieved by Rachel who took over 7 seconds off (200BRS) and moved from 21st to qualify for the final where she again took nearly 2 seconds off that time and gained a place.

Successful first two days at the IAG Div 2 in Limerick with many great swims and pb's from all swimmers. Medals so far include Rachel winning Silver in 800FC and Bronze in 400IM and Lottie taking Bronze in a very closely contested 100BC.

Details attached for this year's Swim Ulster summer skills camp @ Aurora, Bangor from 17th - 21st August 2015.  This camp is open to competitive swimmers born 2003-2005.

Membership renewals for the 2015/16 season for Swim School/Water Polo/Recreation/Masters/Triathlon/Seniors Renewals are in the post. If you don't receive a renewal form by the end of this week please make contact with us. We have a strict deadline to hold your existing place (31st July) as we are being inundated for new member requests.
Once you receive your renewal please pop it back as soon as you can.

Week commencing Monday 17th August is our week long intensive summer swim school. Not too many places left so if you would like to come along application forms are available from the noticeboard in Templemore.

Don't forget Splash Day on Saturday 27th June 11.30-1.00pm, everyone is welcome to come along to this final session of the season. Please note that any White/Orange hats must be accompanied in the pool by an adult and swim hats must be worn. Hope everyone has a fantastic break over the summer.

Wednesday night land training has now finished for the season.

All swim club sessions from 7.30 to 8.30 are cancelled tonight because of the We Are Vertigo end of season event.  All other sessions are on as normal.

Great end of season event, many thanks to all who attended, to the organisers and to We Are Vertigo for looking after us so well.

Over 200 joined us at the end of season BBQ in Crawfordsburn Scout Centre. We were blessed with great weather. Many thanks to those who helped make it a memorable event especially Wendy D. Thanks also to the Scout Centre and to Coffey Butchers (Belmont Road).

A huge entry for the gala and a great event. Well done to all who attended and thanks to those who organised and acted as officials.

Pre Season Training for our Junior & Senior Squad Swimmers will this year run over the final 2 weeks in August giving a great opportunity for some intensive development in advance of next season.

Please book early – numbers are limited!

Our Swim School Summer Scheme will run for 1 week Monday 17th - Friday 21st August.  This is a great opportunity to get some intensive swimming in advance of next season.  Numbers are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Well done to all those who took part in the Leinster Division One trip at the weekend - great bunch of kids and a credit to Templemore ASC.
